Is it safe to buy a Chevy S10 with 111k Miles?

My friend wants to sell his Chevrolet S10 for $ 8000.00. It has a fantastic sound system in it, that landfills. And a Very Good Air Bag system. But apart from that it has 111,000 miles. Are these types of vehicles to know to work for a while?

Chevys usually last long (my dad has a 1994 Chevy Silverodo 1500) (witch is one size above the S 10) with 17,900 on it and it still Runs Great, and never had any major problems, except for things like battery, oil level, and breaks, but things have to be replaced on all cars.
